Scholar Spotlight: Hannah L.
Hannah is a 2024 graduate of HYPE’s Leadership Academy, and she continues to find new and impressive ways to demonstrate her leadership within the HYPE community – and beyond!
She was recently selected as a participant on Delta Air Lines’ Women Inspiring our Next Generation (WING) flight. On Friday September 20, 2024, Delta will fill up an airplane with young women (ages 11 – 18) for a one-day all-female flight from Atlanta (ATL) to the Kennedy Space Center in Florida (XMR). The flight will land at the Kennedy Space Center and start with a mini-mission followed by lunch and a tour. Students submitted a 250-word essay to be considered. In her essay, Hannah reflected on how far we have advanced in terms of aerospace technology but as well as women’s rights and career opportunities in the industry.
Hannah continues to be engaged in HYPE programming too, and is currently serving as a student leader on the planning team for the Teen Leadership Discovery Summit, a collaborative effort between HYPE (Hope for Youth, Inc.), Big Brothers Big Sisters of Metro Atlanta, TAG-Ed and Wright Now Solutions that aims to break down barriers to accessing STEAM careers.
Recently, she completed an internship through HYPE as a research and communications intern at Well Miss. We caught up with Hannah to chat about her internship and her future in tech.
She worked on several projects for Well Miss, including quantitative research into victim assistance program availability in the Southeastern United States for a forthcoming paper. She also supported community outreach, including helping the organization prepare to exhibit at Essence Fest, and CRM management, and clinician communication.
“I learned the value of goal-setting, open communication, and how to validate oneself in a professional setting,” said Hannah, who appreciated an opportunity to learn how to combine her passion for MedTech with her interest in holistic care. “I feel more ambitious and tenacious to pursue my chosen career path in the future.”
“For every risk, there is a reward,” she added. “Being an intern via Hype’s Leadership Academy was an utmost honor and amazing experience I would highly recommend.”
