The HYPE Project Expands to Six Metro Atlanta School Districts

ATLANTA, GA – Hope for Youth through Providing Educational Opportunities (HYPE), a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering girls of color with technology skills, is excited to announce its expansion into six metro Atlanta counties. The organization’s transformative coding classes and leadership programs are now in Atlanta Public Schools, Fulton County Public Schools, Clayton County Public Schools, Newton County Public Schools, Paulding County Public Schools, and, new for the 2024-25 school year, Rockdale County Public Schools.

The HYPE Project is a free afterschool program for female-identifying students in grades 6-12 which exists to cultivate a pipeline of women and girls from underrepresented backgrounds who will grow up to be tomorrow’s leaders in computing and technology. Students leverage their natural inclinations toward creativity and curiosity as they learn coding skills that will prepare them for 21st-century tech careers.

“HYPE’s mission is to cultivate a diverse pipeline of future tech leaders,” said Kristina Newton, Executive Director of HYPE. “Expanding our reach will allow us to impact more young women, equipping them with the skills and confidence to excel in tech careers.”

Since its founding, HYPE has worked to address the underrepresentation of girls of color in the tech industry by offering no-cost programs that combine technology education with leadership development. In addition to our student-centered programming, HYPE also partners with schools and districts to provide a comprehensive, culturally affirming computer science curriculum and professional development to make computer science more accessible to all students.

HYPE is committed to impacting 20,000 Georgia girls by 2028 through direct programming – like the HYPE Project, the HYPE Leadership Academy, and summer coding camps – and through larger events, like the 2024 Teen Discovery Leadership Summit, presented in partnership with Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Atlanta and TAG-ED. Students who participate in multiple HYPE programs also have the opportunity to benefit from exclusive experiences, like the HYPE international experience and internship program.
