Position Summary

Hope for Youth, Inc is seeking enthusiastic, organized, and detail-oriented coding instructors to join our team. This individual will instruct after-school coding programs for up to 40 students over a 16-week period. Programs may occur in person or virtually. Mileage reimbursement is available for in-person assignments.

In this position, you will collaborate with the curriculum team, program manager, and teaching assistants to foster a positive learning environment, deliver lessons and activities, and provide students with the essential support needed to build their interest in coding and computational thinking.

Hours Description

  • Seasonal & Part-Time. Up to 15 hours a week
  • Programs occur weekly on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. Instructor will need to sign up for at least 2 days of the week.
  • Hours will vary depending on how many cohorts the instructor will be responsible for, with a maximum of 4 cohorts

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Attend 2-Day Training in advance of program start to receive training on HYPE curriculum and pedagogy, classroom management, tools & resources, etc.
  • Lead instruction and effectively maintain an exciting, engaging and accessible classroom environment for a diverse group of up to 40 students.
  • Build positive relationships with students, provide holistic support, and create a safe space in which youth can make mistakes and learn freely
  • Establish program culture, including creating a code of conduct, maintaining structure, and managing behaviors of students consistently and fairly to ensure a safe, trauma-informed environment;
  • Track attendance and document student progress.
  • Support students with completion of final project and presentations

Requirements and Qualifications

  • BA or BS in computer science, a related STEM field, or education (completed or currently pursuing); work experience and technical proficiency may be acceptable in lieu of a CS degree.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to handle administrative and tactical duties
  • Ability to manage students in a non-traditional classroom setting
  • Must be able to commit to a full 16-week schedule
