HYPE International Experience

Hope for Youth’s signature program gives HYPE participants the opportunity to apply their recently developed programming skills through facilitation of a 1-week coding workshop in an international developing country or urban city center.

HYPE Scholars have the opportunity to go from having minimal exposure to computing to giving a coding lesson in front of a classroom in a different country. 🤯 They will actively evolve from a student to a teacher, significantly increasing the tech skills that they're able to retain and going through a transformation that can't adequately be put into words!

The HYPE International Experience addresses the tech workforce opportunity gap in multiple ways. Program highlights include:

  • Technology Skills Training: Participants will be trained in computer science and fundamentals of programming.
  • Intercultural Immersion: This 7-day International Experience allows participants to grow in global awareness and gain an appreciation for cultural differences. Students will be introduced to different cultures and learn about the country's historical context, social norms, and local language.
  • Servant Leadership: As a pillar that Hope for Youth is founded on, HYPE participants will facilitate workshops for those who are less privileged and lead by serving others.

About the 2024 Experience

After a brief hiatus brought on by the Covid-19 pandemic, we are more than thrilled to bring back our signature global immersion program for HYPE Scholars. HYPE will be partnering with the Jamaica Technology & Digital Alliance and Epic Transformation to send 11 Scholars to Jamaica from July 6th to July 13th. We'll be teaching teen mothers supported by the Women's Centre of Jamaica Foundation to maximize the impact on the lives and futures of these young women. We're excited to be hosted by The University of West Indies at Mona, Jamaica for what we know will be an all-around excellent engagement. We welcome your support in helping make this opportunity a reality for all beneficiaries involved!
